Partner news: New EDC Plan Signals Growth and Investment Opportunities for Harrison County

CORYDON, Ind. — Harrison County now has a new roadmap to guide economic development and community investment. The Harrison County Economic Development Corporation (HCEDC) has released its strategic plan, shaped through conversations with residents, employers, and regional partners. The plan outlines the work needed to support local employers and lays the groundwork for projects that can strengthen the county in the years ahead.

“This plan represents a turning point for the Harrison County EDC,” said EDC Board President David Lett. “We now have a clear, actionable strategy that focuses on our local employers and welcomes new opportunities with intention and purpose. Our county has extraordinary assets, from our people to our history to our location, and this work positions us to make the most of them.”

The strategic plan highlights the key steps the county will take to support business growth. This includes improving outreach with employers, creating stronger pathways to resolve challenges, and preparing land and infrastructure needed for new projects. The plan also lays out a more consistent approach for responding to new business leads and enhancing the county’s marketing efforts so residents, investors, and site selectors can easily understand what Harrison County offers.

Supporting existing businesses remains a major focus. HCEDC will expand direct communication with employers and work closely with utilities, schools, and workforce organizations. These partnerships will help companies address day-to-day needs and plan for long-term expansion.

The plan aligns closely with the county’s Comprehensive Plan, which emphasizes smart development, strong infrastructure, and protection of Harrison County’s rural character. Together, both plans create a shared direction for growth that benefits residents while preserving the county’s identity.

“Harrison County has always been a community that pulls together, and this plan is proof of that,” said County Commissioner and EDC Board Member Nelson Stepro. “We are supporting the businesses that have built this community while preparing for new jobs and investment. I am proud of the shared vision guiding this work and excited for the future it will create.”

To accompany the strategic plan, HCEDC has introduced a refreshed brand and a redesigned website. The updated look reflects the county’s heritage and natural beauty while featuring a more modern, accessible design. The new site makes it easier to find business resources and site information and creates a better experience for anyone interested in the county.

The strategic plan will guide HCEDC’s work for years to come. Progress will be tracked through business visits, site improvements, workforce partnerships, and new project activity. Regular updates will help keep the community informed about how the plan is moving forward and where results are taking shape.

“Harrison County has always been a special place,” Lett added. “With this plan and our new tools, we are committed to preserving what makes this county unique while building a stronger future for the generations ahead.”

Residents and business owners are encouraged to visit the new website, review the full strategic plan, and connect with HCEDC with any ideas or questions. The plan is available here.
